Recruiting: Leverage At It’s Best

Editor’s Note: The Recruiting posts are a series that focus on (wait for it…) recruiting in college athletics.

Now in all business, the company that recruits the best talent, the brightest people, and has in turn generated the most resources garners the most spoils. From Home Depot to Starbucks, the Harvard and Wharton MBA’s are the most sought after. I have a dear friend that graduated from Harvard Business Schools (HBS) and said when they had there on campus visits from Fortune 500 Company’s it was like a blue chip athlete getting recruited. That got me to thinking about recruiting and what it means to high revenue generating athletics.

Another friend of mine works in the grassroots arena of college sports. He also works in the arena of professional basketball in large part to his cultivated relationships in grassroots basketball. He lends the most valuable opinion of recruiting because he’s immersed in a profession of AAU and college sports that is a living and breathing hypocritical machine that breeds an eco-system of great proportion.

My friend, we’ll call Preston works as a bird dog. A bird dog in large part is a person that isn’t an agent, but works in some capacity (officially or not) for a company that has interests in representing professional athletes. We’ve all heard the story of unsavory types that scour the AAU basketball scene and coordinates with Sneaker company representatives to establish a rapport with a certain athlete. Covert or overt, these relationships are sneered at by college coaches and administrators, but realized by both that they are a necessary evil to maintaining the overall ecosystem of high revenue generating collegiate athletics.

Preston is an interesting cat. Nobody can spout of more facts about college basketball than Preston. Yet his road to his place upon the pulse of collegiate basketball was a long yet significant one. Unless you have a squad of young hoopsters than conditionally win and Sneaker Company’s see a sustainable revenue stream of cultivated relationships, one must work their way up the grassroots level. In Preston’s case, he would fly himself to basketball camps and work the camps. A former college basketball player himself, Preston can charm the venom out of a Pit Viper. Personable and a gentleman in every right, Preston’s ingrained southern roots won’t allow him to not recognize and despise the disparaging number of inequities of the college basketball hierarchy and the work force that fuels it.

“Give a kid some Jordan’s in a color that never came out, or some super exclusive shoes that only him and his team will have and he’s hooked. We’re talking about kids’ man! All these kids want is to play video games, holla at a few girls, and have the freshest shit,” Preston says on our trip to the Duke versus Davidson game in Cameron Indoor. “Come on man, this is some bullshit!” I can see where it’s going and I can’t say I’ll disagree with him, whereas many reasonable people will. “All these millions of dollars are being made and for what? A scholarship?” Most of us are not worthy of any type of scholarship, so we look at a college scholarship as a huge deal. But must of us, cannot contribute to the financial success of a department of a university in mass like collegiate athletes, so comparing our academic or collegiate experience to full scholarship athletes is not comparing apples to apples.

The issue I raise is the simplest most common antidote. “What if someone gets hurt?” Simple as it may sound, Sam Bradford of Oklahoma is reeling in the twenty million left on the table to appease the Oklahoma faithful. After his shoulder was gone, Bob Stoops played some Jay-Z and went “On to the Next One.” And doing so, bent over. Preston shreds that antidote. “If you’re a Ty Lawson or you’re a point guard for Santa Clara, then it’s not the same.” I ask how and get a valid response. “They sell No. 5 jersey’s all over North Carolina. In bookstores in Chapel Hill No. 50’s sell out all the time,” he says “why is it that they can get paid off of the work Ty Lawson or a Hansbrough, and they can’t get any money?” I remind Preston that these kids are going to college for free. “Carolina is twenty five grand a year, since they’re both out of state student’s right?” I concede in acknowledgment to Preston’s assessment. “Man these mother fuckers sell one hundred grand worth of jersey’s in a week.” Everyone also knows that a little exploitation is not exploitation unless it’s you are getting exploited.

“They don’t have to go to college and play,” says another friend of mine Ryan. And he’s right, even know that David Stern and the NBA have instituted an employee requirement for their workforce having to wait a year to enter for the draft, Preston’ argument is met with caution, because players can go the route of a Brandon Jennings and go to Europe. This allows people of this mindset not to examine the status of the amateurism of college sports, but more importantly, come up with alternatives that cannot answer Preston’s original question “Why can’t the player of the No. 5 jersey get paid?” good question for the player’s jersey getting sold at Santa Clara too.

Amateurism and collegiate athletics is a bundle. A bundle that consists of a top twenty-five and the rest. The rest is comprised of the other 270 schools that claim the same status as the top twenty-five, and are legitimized by having the opportunity to compete for the multi-million dollar prize that the top twenty five schools compete for. By the Wal Mart-ing of college basketball, the player at a school like Kentucky, or a Morehead State are on the same playing field, except in skill, ability, and revenue generating capabilities. Other than that, they’re just college student.

A Rivalry Revisited

'Can't we all just get along'

-Rodney King

No! And since it is rivalry week on ESPN, I wanted to take time to revisit some of the greatest rivalries in sports and culture to see where they stack up against each other. Maybe I missed one that you think is pertinent to this conversation. Which rivalries are relevant, passed their time or burgeoning? I left out hockey, but feel free to list your favorite rivalry. So take a gander and let the debate begin…

College Football

Battles for jugs, axes, and eggs withstanding, Ohio State v. Michigan is the marquee match up. Both teams are normally consistant and Rich rod doesn't get his act together, Michigan will throw 4 or 5 million to jim Harbaugh to right the ship. Notre Dame and USC stands the test of time for a by coastal rivalry and the Red River Rivalry is held during the Texas State Fair. Miami and Florida State produced great "wide" games and many pros, and therefore they're right up there with the big boys. Florida v. Georgia is a border war that the Gators have owned, but makes the list with a great title in "World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Auburn and Alabama breath college football and husbands and wives who attended either or don't talk to each other for that week. Oregon and Oregon State have the best name..."Civil War." West Virginia hates everyone they play, but saves an extreme amount of hate for Pitt and Va. Tech.

Florida v. Georgia
USC v. Notre Dame
Michigan v. Ohio State
Texas v. Oklahoma
Miami v. Florida State
Alabama v. Auburn

Honorable Mention:
Pitt v. West Virginia
West Virginia v. Va. Tech
Oregon v. Oregon State

Professional Football:
Pro football is above rivalries and is a corporate machine built off of a proven draft system, free agency, and parity. I believe the old time, blue collar cities of the NFL posses the greatest rivalries. However, New York, Philly, DC, and Dallas do fit into the rivalry aspect of the NFL. Those cities (barring Dallas) have a strong blue collar demographic in their fandom. DC has the NOVA area which isn’t blue collar but isn’t Wall Street either.

Bears v. Packers
Packers v. Lions
Browns v. Steelers
Cowboys v. Redskins

Honorable Mention:
Giants v. Eagles

College Basketball

Sorry to Kansas v. Oklahoma and Missouri v. Illinois. No love for Purdue v. Indiana and anyone that Kentucky plays. College basketball rivalries are sacred and fly by night teams need not apply. The 5 schools in Philly get some love for their consistency, but don't carry enough mass appeal for the list. Lou Carneseca v. John Thompson was classic in the 80's when college basketball was invading the airwaves on ESPN, but not sustainable. Clearly Duke v. UNC is the top college hoops rivalry and is in a dead heat with Yankees v. Red Sox for best in sports.

Duke v. North Carolina
Georgetown v. Syracuse

Honorable Mention:

Notre Dame v. UCLA
UMASS v. Temple

Professional Basketball NBA

The is a bi-coastal league thus their rivalries imitate their league status. The Lakers and the Celtics will go down as the best ever, but don't sleep on the Bulls with Mike v. The Bad Boys from Motown. rick Mahorn made it real hard for his airness to flush it on the Pistons for a while. Mike then developed that killer turn around jumper and Joe Dumars couldn't do nothing with it.

Lakers v. Celtics
Bulls v. Pistons

Honorable Mention
Knicks v. Celtics
Knicks v. Lakers

Major League Baseball

Baseball has lost a majority of its luster to the NFL and its seasons are so long. Competing in the Microwave society of sports fans, has made it difficult to attrack the ADD sports fans of today. Plus when it did attrack Joe Sports Fan (Joe the Plumber's cuzin) it did it with steroids. So it's pre-Vietnam rivalries are in tact, but no new rivalries have developed since then. The Mets and Dodgers carry a small torch of hate for the way the Dodgers left Brooklyn and the Mets came to Queens. Can't we all just get along?

Red Sox v. Yankees
Cubs v. Cards
Giants v. Dodgers

Honorable Mention
Mets v. Dodgers

A Tale of Two Coaches

The annual rivalry game between Duke and North Carolina has seen countless battles. From Walter Davis’ buzzer beater and Jeff Capel’s half court prayer, and every game in between, it goes without saying that this the top rivalry in college sports. The players come and go and the student’s matriculate and graduate, but the constant is the passion that this game creates and the fervor that the fans have toward the game. As a native New Yorker and confessed Duke fan, I’ve decided to take a look at this year’s game through the looking glass of Roy Williams and Mike Krzyzewski.

My brother Russell is a life long referee and now is an athletic administrator in Milwaukee. When he was in high school, he was registered with the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO). When he was a junior in high school, he would referee inter squad games between local colleges. One weekend the United States Military Academy (Army) was having one of their regional barnstorming Black and Grey games and my brother called the game. That is when he encountered a rising star in college basketball named Mike Krzyzewski.

Time would pass by and my brother would attend college at the birthplace of basketball, Springfield College in Springfield, Mass and serve as the team manager for the Men’s basketball team. As the team manager, his duties involved facilitating and accommodating the teams that would come in for the annual preseason Hall of Fame game. In his sophomore year, the North Carolina Tar Heels were on the ticket. As he would make sure the facilities were up to snuff for UNC and their demigod of a coach Dean Smith. One of his key duties was to make sure the brand new balls, were not too brand new and to take them outside and get them broken in. He received these orders from one of Dean Smith’s emissaries, Roy Williams.

I started memorizing and internalizing college sports (and statistics) when I was able to stay up late in 1985 and watch the epic NCAA Final between Georgetown and Villanova. My brother had came home that weekend and was due to graduate shortly after that game and my mother allowed me to watch the game in its entirety with him. It was then I became hooked on college hoops and all I needed was a team to cheer for. But we’ll get back to that later.

Mike Krzyzewski only lasted at Army for a few seasons and headed to Durham as the new head coach of the Duke University Blue Devils. The dean (no pun intended) of college basketball coaches at that time rested only eight miles away. At the time North Carolina State was the chief contending rival of the Tar Heels after Duke which had seen some final four glory in the late 1970’s faded in the by 1980. Needless to say, Mike Krzyzewski took his fair share of lumps in his initial years at Duke. A funny thing happened on the way to Humilityville, he started to win, and win a lot. Those wins brought about a new culture at Duke. Student’s turned Humilityville into Krzyzewskiville, and a coaching star was born. His name would be Coach K.

In 1990 after a string of Final Four appearances, Duke got blown out by a freakish team in UNLV. And coincidentally, that’s when I started to like them. Maybe it was because of my boy I went to military school with grew up with Bobby Hurley in New Jersey. He would try and play like Hurley and always tell a story about him. He was white but you couldn’t tell him he wasn’t a brother. Maybe it’s because of my stats teacher was Coach K’s company commander at West Point. Col. Reed was the man, and I can see him making Coach K assume the front leaning rest position. Or maybe it was my family friend that went to UVA and pledged a fraternity with Grant Hill’s best friend. It was probably when his best friend paged Grant from my house and Grant called him back on my house phone. All of those things and the winning made me a Duke fan for life.

Kansas had won the national championship in 1988 with Danny Manning acting a fool on the court. That dude just dominated! After KU’s success, Larry Brown left, and a new coach was to be hired. KU hired the the assistant coach that gave my brother the distinct basketball ball “breaking in”direction; Roy Williams. He was a career assistant at North Carolina and a junior varsity player for the Tar Heels during his collegiate days. Needlesstosay, he was primed for a prime coaching gig, and it doesn’t get more primetime than KU. Roy Williams was in the big time. He was no longer Roy Williams. He was now Roy. And it didn’t take long for him to meet his mentor’s new nemesis.

To get to that nemesis, Roy must face his mentor in the 1991. Dean v. Roy; Teacher v. The Student. Bill it however you want, Roy’s team lead by Adonis Jordan and Rex Walters was too much for the Tar Heels and Dean got two technicals in the process of losing to his alma mater and student. Kansas was on track to win their second championship in three years and the only thing standing in the way was Roy’s inbred enemy, Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils.
Unlike the blowout the Devils faced the year before in the finals, Duke had someone no other team in the nation had; Grant Hill. Bobby Hurley made sure everyone in the arena and viewing public knew that Duke had a leaping gentleman on their team and at the end of the day; Roy got worn out by Coach K in a singular tense. This was the start of a beautiful “non-friendship.”

Time passed and Roy would dominate the Big 8 and then Big 12 conference. First came a lightening quick guard from California named Jacque Vaughn, then a mid west biggun in Raef LaFrenz, and then Roy’s version of Grant Hill signed with the Jayhawks in Paul Peirce, and with that, Roy had assembled one of the best basketball teams of the 1990’s. It’s just they could never get back to the NCAA finals and the media would attach a monkey on Roy’s back that would grow into King Kong.

Coach K rode his Final Four success to 1994 losing to Nolan Richardson and hisForty Minutes of Hell, Arkansas Razorback squad in my new adopted hometown of Charlotte, NC. I was a student at UNC-Charlotte when they played and was crushed when Scotty Thurman hit that crucial jumper over Antonio Lang. When Thurmond hit that shot, he brought Duke into a reality that took years to address. The mediocrity that followed was due to Coach K hitching his wagon to three semi-decent guards that all coach in college basketball now (go figure). It got so bad in 1995, that a bad hip and worse recruiting sent him packing for a season and sent Duke from the penthouse to the outhouse in less than eighteen months.

Kansas was rocking. Jeff Boshee could hit jumpers from half court it seemed like and in 1997 Kansas had one of the best teams of the 1990’s barring two years of dominance by UNLV and two years of dominance by Michigan’s Fab Five (sans National Championship). Scot Pollard, Craig Ostertag, Raef LaFrenz, Jacque Vaughn, and Paul Peirce all would play at least five years in the NBA, yet in 1997, Arizona behind Mike Bibby and Miles Simon went on to win the championship, surprising all who had either KU or UNC in their bracket (I had Vince Carter, Ed Cota, and Antwan Jamison).

The college game grew more individualistic in regard to AAU scoring clinics posing as AAU games. Coaches, sneaker pimps, and runners flooded to see the new marvels jump and score in bushels. Dick Vitale, Nike, and ESPN made college basketball too hot for TV, and the recruits knew it. In the grand scheme of things, it became apparent that coaches needed players more than players needed coaches. And with that notion out of the closet, the game had finally caught up with Dean, causing his surprising retirement. His loyal assistant Bill Gutheridge would take UNC back to the Final four and he then would retire. Over 30 years and two coaches later, and a strange denial of a coaching offer from Roy, UNC turned to another alumnus who was budding into a star in the coaching ranks, Matt Doherty, a former Roy Williams assistant. Doherty would lead football power Notre Dame to the top of the Big East, and when UNC came calling, the echoes and Doherty were gone.

Coach K had to rebuild and re-recruit the type of player that was cache in college basketball in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. He didn’t have to stray too far from his model of getting kids from two parent households, but did stray to get William Avery and Elton Brand (who is from my county in New York). Straying gave Coach K his first taste of modern internet age college basketball and those two would be the first to leave Duke early for the NBA draft. There was quid pro quo for Avery and Brand. They got Coach K to the NCAA Finals and positioned themselves for the NBA lottery. As mentioned before, Coach K needed them more than they needed him. Coach K really hasn’t been the same since.

Matt Doherty was a train wreck at UNC. To be completely fair, he did go to one Final Four during his three year stint on the Hill. But he also lost 20 games in one season and that was all she wrote for Matt Doherty. In 2003, loaded with Sean May, Raymond Felton, and Rashaad McCants, UNC made a move for their native son. It made sense for Roy as well. He was just finishing up getting beat by Carmello Anthony and Gerry Mac and Jim Boeheim’s traveling circus in the 2003 NCAA Final’s, and the King Kong on his back were too big to handle. Kirk Heinrich and Nick and Nick Collison were leaving KU, and he had nothing really coming in. Time is now. The time had come for Roy to head home to Chapel Hill.

Their initial encounters went Coach K’s way and lead Coach K to his last Final Four in 2004. Roy was just starting. He took the players that Doherty recruited and yelled at too much at (that’s what I heard) and made them play the up tempo that Adonis Jordan and Jacque Vaughn made famous. In time he got Coach K’s number and in 2005, he won it all. There went King Kong and there went Coach K’s advantage.

Roy went on to own Coach K. His prize player Tyler Hansbrough only lost to Duke twice in four years and never lost in Cameron Indoor. Sports radio chatter in Charlotte had grown to be unbearable. It took only a little while and Roy had a powerhouse again just like at KU. But one thing would always come up, especially among fans in the know. Did he earn it? Roy unlike coach K never built a program. He never coached at an Army or something comparable. He went to KU and UNC, two of the top five winningest programs in NCAA basketball history. Where was the sweat equity? Where was the long bus rides? Where was the getting paid to get beat by a power house? Could you faulty a guy for taking the KU and UNC jobs? Wouldn’t you take them? One can’t fault George W. for being born a Bush, and one can’t fault Roy for going to, playing JV for, and assistant coaching at UNC.

Now comes the 2010 meeting of Roy and Coach K. UNC was a buzz saw in 2009 and didn’t even make the games close in the tourney, except for LSU. Duke was average at best, with an average point guard so average that he went to play football at Syracuse this year. Roy was supposed to be sitting in the catbird seat this year with his army of All-Americans coming in. One of his All Americans was supposed to be a ‘one and done’ player.Coach K has a team of upper classman and Roy has a team of generally new players.

There’s one thing that is new though. Roy isn’t winning. He isn’t winning with kids that weren’t supposed to be projects, but were to reload the buzz saw that was of 2009. Great expectations or great hype? Now we get to see coaching at it’s finest. Coaching between the two of the greatest to ever done it, if you believe the media. One coaches at a school that educates the world’s priveledged and the other coaches at a school of the North Carolina’s priveldged. One coaches to a fan base of blue shirts and khaki pants wearing fans. The other coaches a fan base of ultra rowdy future Wall Street barons. The Prince and the Pauper... You decide who is who.

Republican+Democrats= Racism?

Most Republicans are not racists, the same way most Democrats are not domestic terrorists.
(from a blog entry (not me) on Politico dated 10/10/08)

John McCain voted not to make MLK a national holiday as a congressman in 1983 when Dick Cheney and other Republican Congressmen did. Since the issues are a political wash, this is what the election is going to come to.

A. Was that because his constituents did not want him to vote for the holiday or was it because did he not want to?
B. If McCain did not want to vote for the Holiday, was racial undertones behind his voting motive, or conversely if his constituency did not want him to vote for the holiday, was there racial undertones to their collective motive?
C. Did John McCain feel that MLK did not deserve a Holiday thus not voting for it?
D. Since McCain rescinded his vote and voted for the MLK Holiday does that mean his “mistake” is forgiven, and from the onset we must cancel the notion of racism prompted his “no” vote initially?

Barack Obama was on some boards, charities, and has been known to associate socially with William Ayers. The Republicans consider William Ayers a Domestic Terrorist. If William Ayers is a Domestic terrorist and the University of Illinois System is his current employer, and the University of Illinois System receives Title IV Student Aid Funding from the United States Government:

A. Is the University of Illinois system guilty of suborning treason?
B. Is the Attorney General of the United States and Illinois guilty of suborning treason?
C. Is the United States guilty of supporting an educational institution that suborns treason and or terrorism?
D. All of the above?

We're All Battered Spouses

I have a thought…This is thought reaches cross genders (male/female)…This thought does not condone, support or think spousal abuse is cool on any level…it’s an analogy , so take it for what it’s worth….

Imagine your spouse (G.W. Bush) came home everyday and slapped the shyt out of you everyday for 4 years.
Everyday your spouse comes home, your spouse slaps the all out shyt out of you.
There are days when your spouse doesn’t slap you, but all in all your spouse treats you and your new born child foul.
Not only does your spouse slap the shyt out of you, he’s began a beef with the neighbor (Iraq).
The beef with the neighbor is over a misunderstanding he had with the neighbor.
The neighbor wasn’t at the crux of the beef from the onset, but was perceived to be down with your spouses real enemy (Taliban/Afghanistan).
Your neighbor is easier to get at because of proximity, and in all honesty doesn’t like your spouse, which makes it justified.
Every night your spouse comes home from work, your spouse throws beer bottles at you neighbors house.
Your spouse comes to blows with your neighbor and your neighbor starts throwing beer bottles at you when your spouse isn’t home.
Your relationship in the neighborhood is looked at with high calamity, yet this is your spouse and you must remain committed.
At the end of your second year marriage, your spouse starts to turn a new heart.
Your spouse starts bringing new gifts home: Cars, plush rings, a fresh new mortgage, ski trips.
He’s gotten real friendly with some corporate players (Wall Street) that are giving him boat loads of cash and credit.
More importantly, when your spouse comes home from work now, your spouse is less apt to slap the shyt out of you.
Furthermore, your spouse has declared a victory (Mission Accomplished) over your neighbor and basks in the glory of his justified battles.
But privately, you remember how many times your spouse came home and slapped the shyt out of you.
You always said that after year 4 of this marriage your were going to take your daughter and leave your spouse if this persists.
One night at the club you meet a really nice person (John Kerry).
This person is the antithesis of your spouse and has really sparked your interest.
This person doesn’t want to harm you in the least.
This person is a little cantankerous and bawdy, but in this person’s true essence, he is learned, kind, measured, and decent.
On a professional level, this person takes solace in eliciting several types of opinions before making a decision.
You’re drawn closure to the person you met in the club (John Kerry).
Your spouse eventually finds out about this person and instead of slapping the shyt out of you, makes an intervention of sorts.
Your spouse proposes that your new friend from the club and he sit down and offer their best qualities and let you decide who you like.
Your spouse and your new friend essentially give you the power to select who your would like to spend your life with.
At the end of the day, you decide that you have a child with your spouse and he quelled the beef with the neighbor, thus you’ll remain with your spouse.
Your spouse is ecstatic.
The next day at work your spouse calls you to notify you of a great surprise your spouse has gotten you.
When your spouse comes home, to your surprise there’s a sporty Jaguar coup pulling into the driveway.
Your spouse has a pair of Harry Winston diamond studs as a surprise as well.
You marvel at the Jag and the diamonds.
As soon as your spouse gains comfort in the home it happens.
Your spouse all out slaps the living shyt out of you.
Your spouse then goes out and regains the beef with your neighbor, concentrating more efforts to crush him.
The slapping continues at a feverish pace and so does the beef with the neighbor.
The neighbor’s next door neighbor (Iran) takes offense to the constant beef with his neighbor and approaches your spouse about it.
With out warning your spouse crushes a beer bottle over your neighbor’s neighbor head and dares him to say something.
Now your spouse has constant beef with your two neighbors.
Your spouse fights with both of them nightly and still makes time to tell you everything is cool, after slapping the shyt out of you.
Your other next door neighbor on the left hand side (John McCain) starts to like how your neighbor is doing things, though he may not 100% agree w/ your spouse.
Your other neighbor and your spouse had a little competition for you 8 years ago but that’s ancient history.
Toward your 8 year anniversary w/ your spouse, before you can even say anything, your spouse lets you know he’s leaving you.
Your spouse informs you that all the fine things he bought you are really in your name and those corporate friends (Wall Street) of his are going broke.
Your spouse has thrown 700k (Bail Out) worth of debt on you.
Your spouse is on cruise control now, with no debt, and or shame, your spouse is a walking beat down machine.
Your spouse has made a alliance with your left hand neighbor to take some of the pressure off of his flawed reputation in the neighborhood.
Your neighbor to the left goes and gets smokes, beer, and movies from Blockbuster for your spouse.
You now feel the ultimate betrayal.
On the way home from the gym, you meet a dashing person with their life together (Barack Obama).
This person is caring, kind, articulate, passionate, informed, tempered, and most important genuine.
This person doesn’t pretend to know everything, but knows enough to consult informed people for advisement.
This person is what you have been seeking, but more importantly, is what you and your 4 year old daughter needs.
Your spouse decides to leave.
Your spouse leaves as a failed parent and spouse, and doesn’t really care.
The beef with the neighbor is still going, but your spouse is out.
The neighbor to the left wants to get with you.
Even though the neighbor to the left was down with your spouse and admired how your spouse got down, your neighbor believes you guys should be together.
The man at the gym enlightens people on a day to day level and appears on all facets to have a goodness to him that you have never encountered.
Both the neighbor to the left (John McCain) and the person from the gym (Barack Obama) would like you to chose to marry them.
What do you do?

This and That...College Football Style

For the first time in a while, I had the perfect college football weekend. These are few and far between for me, but when it happens, you gotta put it out in the "blogoshpere." So here's how it went down...

Auburn got beat. They suck and can't score at all, so I was glad they got beat, but I wanted to see the Gators, play them in the SEC Championship, but who really cares, they got hammered.

Texas got beat. I used to pull for UT until they beat my mistress Southern Cal last year. I liked Vince Young a little bit, but they don't play anyone traditionally and their conference is a joke. Just ask K-State!

Cal got beat. Thinking ahead can kill you. I have nothing really against Cal. They're not a bunch of old south racists in the stands like at Auburn, and I like their academics, but I needed them to get beat so SC could jump up. But they may be poised for a big one in LA next week, so watch out.

Louisville got beat. I'm a native NY'er so anytime Rutgers beats anyone not Florida or SC, I'm down.

FSU got hammered by Wake. "Anytime a team from North Carolina is playing, I pull for them" Dawn Nicole Thomas. Well, Mrs. Thomas, I'm with you. I'm glad Wake hammered the Noles. Let's just hope the Gators follow suit.

My Heisman Watch is as follows:
Troy Smith, QB The Ohio State
Darren McFadden, RB Arkansas
Ray Rice, RB Rutgers
Brady Quinn, QB Notre Dame (They Don't Play Anyone!!!!!!)

Looking forward to next week, let's just say that I'll probably be in VA. next weekend visiting family, but at 3:30, you know I'm all over the UM v. The OSU game. Look out for Cal v. SC, Auburn v. Alabama, and you know the mother of all games, NCSU v. UNC (The Midnight Madness Bowl).

BEST FIGHT SONGS OF ALL TIME:

Rally sons of Notre Dame:

Sing her glory and sound her fame,
Raise her Gold and Blue
And cheer with voices true:

MORE THAN A GAME

This weeks Louisville v. West Va. game is pretty important. Not just for the BCS standing or the validity of the Big East, but it’s important because the Big East was pillaged and left for dead a few years ago. The money sluts of the ACC lured away the Big East’s financial strongholds (Miami, Boston College, and Va. Tech) to the snobbery of the ACC in hopes of securing some of that BCS money. Florida State has been on an obvious decline and with a playoff in game in place the ACC could rival itself like another one team conference, the Big 12. But something happened on the way to the bank…Va. Tech and ‘em forgot their dominance and the Big East via strong grass roots recruiting, superior coaching (cause the players in the ACC are superior right), and most importantly, not panicking, is one game away from legitimacy. I say this to say that the ACC is not that great. Though they sent a bunch of players to the draft last year, those players (mostly defensive) aren’t the issue. Half-Ass-U (FSU) went to the Orange Bowl last year with four losses. Now that’s a shame. Plus at least the Big East showed up to play against the SEC and put it to ‘em. Now team for team, can the Big East hang with the ACC? HELL YEAH! I’d take West Va. Over Va. Tech (they won last year)…and I’d take Louisville over Miami or FSU. I’d take Rutgers over UNC (my bad…it already happened). So the ACC got a few programs on the decline to help their football revenue…and if the Ga. Tech Yellow Jackets or BC Eagles play in the BCS v. USC, Michigan, Florida, Auburn, West Va., or Louisville, then I’ll give the ACC’s best 10 points going away.

One more thing...The Ohio State has a chance of beating the number 2 ranked team in the country three times in one season. That's some real king of the mountain shit! Embattled Florida QB Chris Leak admitted that he might of had a concussion during the game agains UGA. Tim Tebow is on his ass...Charlie Weis was pretty good on 60 Minutes, but I still hate them...well I'm a Catholic, but I still hate the way they did Tyrone. What about Colt McCoy? He's a player huh? I guess that Snead kid is looking to a Pac-10 school in need of a pretty good QB.

Heisman Prediction 10/30/06
Winner- Troy Smith QB, The Ohio State
Invitees- Calvin Johnson WR, Ga. Tech
Brady Quinn QB, Notre Dame
Garrett Wolfe RB, Northern Illinois

Something new at The Thomas Report

Conference Players of the Week:
Big East- Ray Rice RB, Rutgers
ACC- Brenden Ore RB, Va. Tech
SEC- Erick Ainge QB, Tennessee
Pac 10- Oregon State Univeristy
Big 12- Colt McCoy QB, Texas
Big 10- Troy Smith QB, The Ohio State

UNC, STANFORD, MICH. STATE, ARMY, NAVY, & AIRFORCE? PLAY SOMEONE!

You guys play ARMY, NAVY, AIR FORCE, UNC, STANFORD, MICH. STATE, UCLA...
and you wanna b*tch about not moving up in the BCS? PLAY SOMEONE!!!!!!!!!

Take your barnstorming tour to the SEC, play West VA. again, play VA. TECH, play THE GATORS, play LSU and AUBRUN once and a while and then you can gripe!

GA. TECH is all you can hang your hat on? GA TECH! You cannot be serious. You're a fraud and Michigan exposed you and your offense! More importantly, your pedestrain defensive back field. No. 9 couldn't step on the field in the SEC, daddy! I wish the DB's were like No. 9. Then Chris Leak would throw for 300 plus...Beleive that! Reggie Bush outran that dude lightly...But anyway, WAKE UP THE your booking department, and play Texas, or somebody...shit...They'll make it worth your while. Beat them, then b*tch!

P.S.
Ya'll better not lose to UNC (ever)!

TEMPTING CHRISTIANS

David Kuo has been making waves through the media storm due to his book Tempting Faith. He has been on all the shows: Larry King, Bill Maher, 60 Minutes, and this morning I saw him on C-SPAN. His book is about the White House’s brilliant idea to get Christian Evangelical leaders to join forces and pony up all of that offering to the White House for G-Deezy and ‘em. Mr. Kuo has stated he was the architect that helped design the template if you will of getting Christian power broker’s to join forces with Karl Rove’s machine. In return, the Christian’s would get “ex” amount of dollars for their programs and initiatives. Well a funny thing happened on the way to the successful re-election of G-Weez; nothing! Squat! Bubkas! Jack shit! The Christians thought that they would have the ear of G-Dub, but they were bamboozled, hornswagled, led astray (you get my drift)… Mr. Kuo says the reason he went public was to try to encourage Christians to have a “political fast” and disassociate themselves from politics and more importantly politicians. Fat chance! It aint happening! If GW is good for anything, it’s convincing people that he’s a Christian, Muslim’s are bad, and we as Christians should kill all terrorists. Christians killing Muslim terrorist? Well to each his own. My stance has been made clear. You can’t take back what you’ve bought, tried on, worn to the club, and funked up. He’s your guy and if G-Wizzle wants to tell Christians one thing and do another, then deal with it. Christians in this country have me puzzled anyway. Christians in this country don’t care about Darfur, any suffrage, the poor or homeless, they care about abortion and the war. So am I to believe that Jesus Christ would have turned his benevolent back on the people of Africa, namely Darfur? I’m just unclear what Jerry Falwell, JD Jakes, Joel Osteen, and whoever else penetrates my television on Sundays. But Mr. Kuo has one issue that is irrefutable. He has fingered the Republicans for doing an unscrupulous alignment with the Christians, and he more importantly fingered the unscrupulous evangelicals who were naïve enough to believe a rattlesnake wouldn’t bite them. Or would it?

WAR IS FOR WHITE GUYS

We at The Thomas Report have strayed from politics for a while and I was trying to figure out why. I watch Bill O’Reilly and I watch Bill Maher, and there has to be some middle ground, but when I think about it, politics shouldn’t have a middle ground. Bill O’Reilly is the most Conservative Independent on earth. He is a mega-conservative that tries to sleaze out some UGLY chick and gets set up. I take issue with O’Reilly because he:

1. Tried to hook up with a UGLY chick and got recorded.
2. Tries to out talk the “liberal looney’s” out there that he has on his show/
3. Claims to know the culture of Columbia University, but never was a student there. I never went to Harvard. Can I honestly make a definitive claim of the academic culture there? Don’t think so.
4. Lastly, he a prick who tried to tank Ludacris’ come up and tried to bully Pepsi into dropping him from a commercial and he stepped out on his wife with an UGLY chick. Bill O’Reilly is an ass and a hooker set up away from being off the air.

How come if the liberal left opposes the war, they oppose American security? I think it’s very dangerous to do that and that’s the perfect example of white men being white men…Anyway, Dennis Miller called out Sean Hannity on that and caught Hannity off guard. Hannity said all Democrats were trying to cut and run and end the war and blah blah blah, and Dennis Miller (a new wave conservative) said that it is unfair and dangerous to say just because they don’t agree with the current Republican strategy, that the Dem's don’t care about the WAR. We at The Thomas Report feel that only Skulls should be in government and we also feel that American’s shouldn’t have buyer’s remorse. You bought GW or he bought you, and now you must deal with him. Good or bad…He owns America and it’s courts and ass soon as we feel comfortable with the political lube, our annus’ will feel better as well.

We at The Thomas Report acknowledge that there is always a hint of cynicism attached to all of our commentary, but seriously, I am a firm believer that politicians by right should be corrupt, white, and preferably from a reputable family. There are many reasons why I feel this way, but mainly because I think over privileged white men make good villains. Politicians in this country are villains with madcap agendas that get foiled at the last minute by their opposition, the press, or their own party. The best is the way that politicians swear they know nothing about any wrong doing or tomfoolery. “I had no idea that I was IM’ing young boys….or better yet, I’m an alcoholic.” Or there’s “I had no idea Mr. Abramoff came to the White House on those occasions…” The best one “I apologize for the Vice President shooting me in the face…I’m sorry to have put my face in harms way…” Evil men should conduct the business of this country! Evil men are great….Evil women too I guess can get some love. Condi and Hillary are two ruthless broads that would sell anything to be in power….Especially that ass! I just don’t know who would buy it…One of them is single (not by choice trust me) and the other’s husband would rather bang out a sleazed Jewish intern than his brutally unattractive wife. But anyway, I look forward to seeing what happens to a few politicians. Namely Rick Santorum, Ken Blackwell, The Governator, Mike DeWine, and that looney district in Florida that will still put a Republican in office, even though the name on the ballot will be some perved out sleezoid who drinks too much and solicits beau hunks. What a world! Just keep them white, rich, and reputable and America will stay the course. Aint that right G-Dub…G Deezy 4 Sheezy…G Dizzle…G Weez….or George Walker Bush!

Tiger Town Reconciliation

Yesterday sucked. First I couldn't get this episode I'm working on paper and then the games started. Every team that I wanted to win lost. Now I'm a Gator fan first and pretty much only (SoCal) but for certain reasons, I wanted certain teams to get beat. Let me explain...UT v. Nebraska. If Tom Osborne would have been at Nebraska, they would have won. But you have this clown Callahan as the coach throwing the ball like Bill Walsh and couldn't hold on to the lead. I needed UT to lose because they're higher in the AP Poll, but nevertheless, the won. Then there was Notre Dame. I really want to like Notre Dame, but they're just so Notre Dame, that I hate them. Let me elaborate. Notre Dame was established in the Midwest to educate the young men of the seminary and the immigrant children of the Midwest. Early on, Notre Dame recognized that college football could have a massive following, if they could have two key ingredients: Talent and Exposure. So Knute Rockne took his teams on barnstorming tours playing highly recognizable schools in distinct regions of the country. Such as Army, Navy, USC, and of course Michigan. Rockne's crew of Catholic's took it to the WASPS of the aforementioned institutions. Anyway, he built up a huge media following, generated an image; Hollywood came calling, put Reagan in the Gipper, won a few championships, and in the process laid the groundwork for a top 25 University generations later. I love the story, and Rudy is the second best college football movie ever (Nothing beats the Program). And then they went and did it. They went and HIRED A BLACK GUY NAMED TYRONE. What the hell was that? Why did they have to hire him? They hired him to fire him and anyone who has an ounce of college football savvy can see it. Even Sylvester Croom got five years. They kept Bob Davie for five years. That was chicken shit racism. They had a hard-on for Urban Meyer and he left for my Gators, tanked Chris Leak's career, for a fucking white boy in Tebow. So I hate Notre Dame for firing Tyrone and fucking up Chris Leak's career. But they beat UCLA and Charlie Weis made Notre Dame right, because Karl Dorrel is a joke as a coach and tanked his signature win on NBC of all networks. What a tank job! So Notre Dame is right, and Tyrone and Karl get beat on a day that Sylvester Croom surely lost on. Looking real good for the black coaches of the world... The robust 4 of them... Anyway, Washington lost, Ga. Tech lost (of course), (I hate to say this) Alabama lost to UT, Vandy lost, Duke lost (I could have gone to that game), and that's about it. FSU lost, which was cool and Pitt lost and that was cool too (big up to Rutgers). UNC lost and I love to se them lose. Not because I like Duke, but they show you how to have an insane amount of money to buy players and a solid alumni network, yet still manage 1 and whatever. Duke sux, but they don't have enough bread to fund a football team like a public school. Shit, UNC works at least 40-50 million dollar annual football budget. That's a crib, plus facilities and all you can buy is Hakeem Nix. I live in the QC, but that's all you can buy? You better hit up the Tidewater area of VA, if you know what's good for you.

I just want to say that I have a huge distain for two schools. Ole Miss and Clemson.... Now maybe I watch Eyes on the Prize too much, but it's something about a bunch of black boys running around in a stadium in front of those white fans, just doesn't resonate with me. Anyway, I must commend Clemson for what they did for Ray Ray and his younger brother Fahmar. That's a good look and they did not have to do what they are doing. So with that said, enough respect to Tiger Town, you do take care of your own!

THE WORLD'S TWO BEST, THE OLYMPIC QUALIFIER, AND THE BRONZE

A coworker and I were talking and the issue of LeBron James surfaced. Now LeBron James gives great highlight. I’ll be the first to admit he can dunk with the best of them and is an extremely gifted passer, but he’s no Kobe Bryant. Now the question posed to me was: “If you were starting a franchise today, who would you take? Kobe or LeBron? Now, I would have to really be an idiot to pass on the marketing dollars and the “butt’s in seat” aspect of King James. But the more practical answer is age. LeBron is six years younger than Kobe, thus he would be the logical choice. That being said, Kobe Bryant’s GAME, is light years ahead of LeBron James’. I said it before, and I’ll say it again, Kobe Bryant is the BEST all around basketball player in the world. What defines all around? Well, all around consists of DEFENSE, shooting ability, passing ability, free throw ability, and over all scoring ability. Nobody or better yet, no guard except MIKE has ever been able to dominate a game like Kobe. Now I was never a Kobe Bryant fan, until people started hating him. To tell you a little about myself real quick, I like the Florida Gators (because everyone else likes FSU) and I like Duke Basketball (because EVERYONE loves UNC). Now back to regularly scheduled program…Shaq is great, and he was the force behind the Lakers’ championships, however, he was not the scoring force. Shaq wasn’t who you wanted on the free throw line AT ALL in the fourth quarter. If I’m not mistaking, but I believe Kobe (a guard now) drew a double team and threw the Ally to Shaq to seal the deal of championship number two. But back to the subject matter at hand. I conceded to my coworker, it would probably be wise to take LeBron on the potential factor alone, but he went as far to say that Dwayne Wade and LeBron are the two best players in the world, he lost me. Now let me get me this straight. These two were on an OLYMPIC QUALIFIER team with other NBA players and couldn’t beat Spain or Argentina. Do you realize that you could fit 5 Argentina’s in the state of Texas? Anyway, these two are the greatest players, yet when the Spaniards went zone, so went the Olympic teams OLYMPIC QUALIFIER Gold Medal. Two of the best players, matter of fact these two best players in the world couldn’t do better than a bronze medal? Of course not…My Co-worker like many other fans, watches highlights of these guys and declare them all exalted. Kobe Bryant would have shot the lights out of the place. The Europeans (to their credit) sagged in the zone and made Wade and LeBron shoot over them instead of drive through them. The Americans were peppered with offensive foul calls because they could recognize and adapt to a sagging zone. Coach K even brought in Jim Boeheim to teach these guys the zone. But I digress. You can’t sag on Kobe Bryant. He’ll miss a few sure…but he’ll make more. Michael Redd and Ray Allen are the shooters of the NBA are just that…shooter’s. Kobe Bryant gets to the rack just as much as Wade and Bryant if not more, but has a rock solid jumper and creates points off his defense enough to possess the leagues most deadly game. On top of that, he sticks big time shots to break the back of the competition. Now Kobe didn’t win without Shaq and Michael never won without Pippen. So it’s fair to say that Kobe does need a sidekick, and he like LeBron will get a reputable one. That time will come for Kobe when Chris Paul gets a max deal from the Lakers, and they package Lamar Odom, Jordan Farmar, and Andrew Bynum to whoever’s taken. OH fucking yeah I almost forgot… Kobe hit for 81 when his team needed it. 81! 21 three’s! Are you kidding me? Wade nor James couldn’t hit a dominant college team for 81 points. You can’t get 81 or 69 (MIKE’s MAX) with out hitting three’s. Getting to the lane and going to the free throw line or Sports Center dunks just won’t get you 81. So LeBron is the future, and he might get to Kobe or MIKE, so if I was starting a franchise, I’d take LeBron unless I had Greg Oden (smirk)….Lastly, here’s the Thomas Report’s 2008 projected Olympic starting roster. Buy you some of this!

G- Chris Paul
G- Kobe Bryant
F- LeBron James
F- Amare Stodamire
C- Dwight Howard

I'M BACK

We at the Thomas Report have been gone for a while but now we're back. We could give a long drawn out reason for our departure from the Blogoshpere but we won't. There has been an addition to the family though as we are extra proud to announce the arrival of Mila Nicole Thomas.

Now getting right to it. We at the Thomas Report discuss two topics. Politics and Sports; preferably college sports. Now with no delay (Tom Delay), let's start the show.

Miami. What is going on with Miami? Nothing. Miami is Miami. Nothing more. Nothing less. What Miami is lacking offense skill players, thus their demise and magnified off and on the field transgressions. Now, we at The Thomas Report do not condone poor sportsmanship, however, we do recognize Miami's lack of playmakers that the ACC was banking their realignment on hasn’t panned out for the conference and Larry Coker. Think about it. Prior to joining the ACC, Miami was NFL Draft U. It didn’t matter at what position, you go to the U...you go to the league...you play in the BCS...the school makes tons of BCS cash…you go to the league. Miami's lack of production has intensified their inability to sustain a level of play that made them who they were...Miami. Skill and speed kills, and Miami had it until the last of the Moss brothers' skated to the league. Now it's Defense U, where a stock pile of ferocious DB's and linebackers populate the U's draft day gang. Far be it for me to try to search for the racial undertones of the U’s latest debacle, but the fact is there must be a shortage of tailback and wide receivers in Dade and Broward County, and due to the shortage, Miami is short!

My Gators got beat on some BS on October 14th. Well it was inevitable, but I promise that on a neutral field we'd beat Auburn. Chris Leak got caught in indecision and it caused us the game. I do admit that Tim Tebow looks like Rex Grossman in the face, but he's going to go down as the best QB Urban Meyer's ever coached. Tebow is no Wuerffuel, but he's good for what the Gator of date calls for. We'll see if we can get by Georgia and go from there.

Man USC is like the really hot chick from LA you met in Vegas, but there's no shot at getting her. This year they’re like the really hot girl that isn't hot yet, but the following year or so she just rocks your sox. Hands down their system is the best. QB play is vital to their success and it's the most competitive on the field job in college sports. Now before you think Notre Dame, Carlyle Holiday and some other dude (O forgot his name) were QB’s there recently…so no to Notre Dame. Back to USC…You have to be a "balls out" high school QB just for consideration. Socal is also a must (or look the part like JD Booty). Then you have to sit and watch the former red-shirt “so and so” destroy Pac-10 competition for at least two years before you get a shot. To top that off, you have to compete with the next coming of John Elway, who thinks he's going to break the mold of a red-shirt freshman. It won't happen. My favorite coach Pete Carroll has the world fooled like he's some "aw shucks" good-time Charlie surfer dude, all the while he's in the backyard of every state raiding every coach of their premiere talent. Just ask Mack Brown about Emmanuel Moody.

Lastly there's Ohio State. This year's Texas. Well here we go again. A team that only plays three a 12 game season...13 if you consider the bowl. I get into with my partner every year about the Buckeyes. They are an excellent program, and the have a great QB this year, but I feel if you don't play at least 5 ranked teams a season then you're conference is cake. And if you have an overwhelming talent pile on your team then you're short changing college football. SC plays in a traditionally softer conference, but of late they dogged Arkansas, have Cal, and Notre Dame which are top 10 BCS teams, and are playing more freshmen ten any other BCS team. It's safe to say that SC will be number 1 next year from the jump. But this paragraph is about the Bucks and their destiny this year. The Senator has done a great job administering the best program in the mid-west, and since he won a national championship with T-Smif as a red-shirt frosh, then I have no problem with T-Smif being this year's Vince Young. Just make sure he wins the Heisman. 'Til next time...

THERE IS NO TRUE FORM TO THIS BLOG AND I HAVE WATCH MY FIANCEE'S NEPHEW SO I GOTTA MAKE THIS QUICK.

I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE GATORS ON AN AFTERNOON WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL. THEIR COACH WAS A SHREWD SON OF A BITCH. HE'S THE GUY I WANTED TO BE LIKE. UNCONVENTIONAL, SHREW, PRECISE, AND MOST OF ALL, SURROUNDED BY TALENT. I MEAN CHRIST, HE WAS SPURRIER. HE WAS SURROINDED WITH THE PREMEIRE HIGH SCHOOL TALNENT AN BUILT A FORCE. IN A CINFERENCE WHERE SPEED RULES, HE MANIPULATED DEFENSES WITH PRESCION AND TOOK ASS WHIPPINGS LIKE A MAN. NOW THINGS ARE DIFFERENT.

WE GOT OUR ASSES KICKED BY SOUTH CAROLINA WITH SPURRIER ON THEIR SIDELINE AND WE HAD SOME NEW WAVE DIP SHIT AS OUR COACH. I LIVE IN THE SAME CITY WHERE GATOR QB CHRIS LEAK PLAYED HIS HIGH SCHOOL BALL. I NEVER WATCHED HIM PLAY IN HIGH SCHOOL, BECAUSE i NEW HE WAS GOING TO BE A GATOR. WHEN SPURRIER LEFT, I WAS A LITTLE SHAKY, BUT YOU ALWAYS KNEW HE WOULD GO PLAY FOR THE GATORS.

I'M OVER THE WHOLE THING NOW. I CONTINUED THIS ENTRY AFTER I HAD A WEEKEND TO DO OTHER SHIT. BUT FOR THE RECORD I DESPISE THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA FOR FIRING RON ZOOK AND NOT HIRING THE OLE BALL COACH BACK. WHAT KIND OF DIP SHIT MOVE WAS THAT? YOU OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T LOOK AT THE BEST COLLEGE PLAY CALLER IN THE HISTORY OF YOUR PROGRAM. SPURRIER WITH LEAK WOULD BE A NO- BRAINER, AND NOW YOU LET HIM GO TO SOUTH CAROLINA AND BEAT YOU. THAT'S WHAT YOU GET. I'M OVER IT. YOU CAN'T RUN ANY, I MEAN ANY.....YOU HEAR ME.....ANY TYPE OF OPTION IN THE SEC!!!!!!! THE PLAYERS ON DEFENSE ARE WAY TO FAST FOR IT! WITH THE 2 MILLION UF IS PAYING YOU URBAN, BUY YOURSELF A CLUE!

BUT ANYWAY, SINCE GEO AND HIS BOYS IN THE REUPBLICAN PARTY ARE REELING IN RECENT WEEKS AND LOST THE VIRGINIA AND NEW JERSEY GUBERNATORIAL ELECTIONS AND "THE GOVERNATOR'S" BULLSHIT PROPOSALS IN CALIFORNIA STOOD AS MUCH OF A CHANCE AS N.C. CENTRAL DOES V. DUKE IN HOOPS TONIGHT, I FIGURED I'D OFFER UP SOME BY THE NUMBERS FACTS PULLED OFF OF GOLD OLE' SEN. EDWARD "TED" KENNEDY'S (D-MA) WEB SITE. I REALLY DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE LEAK BECAUSE IT DOESN'T MATTER ANYWAY. MY MAN GEO IS IN CHARGE AND YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT IS PUNK! THE SPECIAL PROSECUTOR (PATRICK J. FITZGERALD)IS A PUSSY FOR NOT GOING AFTER CHENEY AND ROVE, AND MY MAN GEO AND 'EM CAN SHOW YOU (FELLOW AMERICANS) BETTER THAN CAN TELL YOU (FELLOW AMERICANS) THAT "WE RUN THIS BITCH....YOU JUST WORK HERE."

GEO. BUSH HATES BLACK PEOPLE? BLACK PEOPLE HATE BLACK PEOPLE!

KANYE WEST MADE A STATEMENT TO THE EFFECT THAT GEO HATES BLACK FOLK. THAT STATEMENT SPARKED A HUGE DEBATE. NOT ON IF GEO REALLY HATES BLACK PEOPLE, BUT HOW COULD SOMEONE SAY SUCH A THING ABOUT THE KING...I MEAN...THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES? HOW DARE HE? WELL, WHY SHOULD GEO BUSH CARE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE? BLACK PEOPLE DON'T CARE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE. I KNOW WE DO DURING AN AWARD SHOW OR AT A MARCH, AND THERE ARE FOLK OUT THERE IN THE COMMUNITY LOOKING AFTER "AT RISK" FOLK, BUT BY IN LARGE, WE DON'T LIKE EACH OTHER. LOOK ATHE THE COMMON TERMS NOWADAYS. PLAYER HATER TURNED INTO HATER, WHICH TURNED IN TO HATIN', WHICH IS NOW SO COMMON YOU CAN BE HATIN' ON A WAY A PERSON FRIES CHICKEN, FRIES FISH, AND FRIES OKRA. BUT SERIOUSLY WE DON'T LIKE EACH OTHER TOO MUCH, AND I THINK IT'S OKAY TO ADMIT IT.

NOW THE SERIOUS FOLK ARE GOING TO TRY AND POKE HOLES IN MY LITTLE ESSAY USING THE "PRE-CONDITIONED TO HATE" ARGUMENT. I DON'T DISPUTE THAT. IN FACT I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THAT ASSESMENT. THAT ONLY PROVES THAT AS A PEOPLE, WE DON'T LIKE EACH OTHER. OTHERS MAY USE "THE CRABS IN THE BARRELL" ARGUMENT. I TOTALLT AGREE WITH THAT ONE TOO. YOU SEE IN AFRICA AND IN THE LAND OF THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE, PEOPLE OF COLOR HAVE BEEN SYSTEMATICALLY TRAINED TO YURN FOR WHAT THEY CANNOT HAVE. CURRENTLY, IT APPEARS THAT THE "YEARN OF THE DAY" IS CELEBRITY AND STATUS. TO BE FAIR, WHITE FOLKS YEARN FOR CELEBRITY AND STATUS, BUT KENNY CHESNEY DIDN'T SAY THAT GEO HATES WHITE PEOPLE SO WE'LL JUST REMAIN ON THE TASK AT HAND. THE ONLY THING THAT AMAZES ME, IS THAT EVEN I, WHO WAS AN INCREDIBLY BAD STUDENT AND A COMPLETE UNDERACHIEVER, UNDERSTAND THAT THESE PRE-EXISTING NOTIONS EXIST. SO DO RAPPERS, ACTORS, AND ATHLETES, BUT IN THEIR COMFORT THEY NEVER TRULY GET THE WORD OUT ON COHESIVE UNITY. yOU KNOW WHY, IT'S NOT IN THEIR BEST INTEREST TO PROMOTE OR STRIVE FOR ANY COLLECTIVE UNITY EXCEPT IN TIMES OF CRISIS! IN RAPPERS CASES, HATRED, DEBUACHERRY, AND PERPETUATING THE "STREET IMAGE" IS WHAT KEEPS FRIED CHICKEN, FISH, AND OKRA (DON'T FORGET THE MAC ' CHEESE) ON THEIR PLATES, CAUSE EVERYONE GOTTA EAT!

LET'S EXAMINE NEW ORLEANS SHALL WE. THE FAMED MURDER CAPITAL OF THE UNITED STATES. WHO'S WILLING TO WAGER AGAINST ME THAT BLACK ON BLACK MURDER WAS AND IS THE LEADING MURDER CASES IN THE PARRISH? WE'VE ALL SEEN "I'M BOUT IT" A CINEMATIC CLASSIC BY MASTER P. AND 'EM. THAT MOVIE WAS WAY TO GRITTY TO HAVE A HOLLYWOOD SPIN ON IT. THAT SHIT WAS REAL. THOUGH POLITICIANS OF LOUISIANA AND WASHINGTON, D.C. ARE FULLY AWARE OF THE CRIME, IT'S BLACK PEOPLE WHO EXECUTE THESE CRIMES IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND LIVE WITH THE BAGDE OF HONOR OF NAWLINS BEING THE MURDER CAPITAL OF AMERICA OR THE WORLD OR WHATEVER. RAPPERS FROM THE PARRISH ARE WELL KNOWN FOR THEIR HORROR TALES AND INSANE DRUG MONEY WEALTH. WE CAN'T GO A DAY WITH OUT TURNING ON 106 AND PARK ON BET(THE NIGGAS NETWORK) AND SEE ONE OF THE MANY NEWLINS RAPPERS AND THEIR 1.6 MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF JEWLERY PROMOTE THEIR NEXT ALBUM. IT MAY SEEM LIKE I'M HATIN' ON THESE CATS, BUT I'M TRYING TO POINT OUT THAT THESE GUYS GET LARGE AMOUNTS OF CASH, AND THOUGH THEIR LIVES CHANGE, THE LIVES OF THE PEOPLE IN THEIR COLLECTIVE COMMUNITY DIDN'T CHANGE AND I'M HATIN ON THAT! SO BLACK PEOPLE WERE HATIN' EACH OTHER PRETTY HARD IN NAWLINS BEFORE KATRINA AND MY GUESS IS THAT THEY STILL WILL WHEN NAWLINS IS REBUILT.

WHAT ABOUT AFRICA? WE'VE SEEN THE MOVIE WITH STRINGER BELL FROM "THE WIRE" PLAYING AN AFRICAN SOLDIER TORMENTED DURING THE TUTSI/HUTU MASSACRES OF 1994. WE'VE ALSO SEEN MY MAN DON CHEADLE'S PERFORMANCE IN HOTEL RWANADA. BUT IF HOLLYWOOD HADN'T COME CALLING TO OFFER THEIR PERSPECTIVES ON THIS TRAGEDY, CHANCES ARE THAT THE MAJORITY OF BLACKS IN THE U.S. WOULDN'T HAVE EVEN KNOWN ABOUT THE KILLINGS. NOW A LARGE PART OF THE INFORMATION IS CONTROLLED BY THE MEDIA, SO THERE IS A RELIANCE ON THEM, BUT THE AFRICANS WHO DO THESE KILLINGS, MUST HAVE A LEVEL OF HATE WITHIN THEMSELVES THAT IS UNPARALLED IN AMERICA. THE U.S. IS TO BLAME FOR NOT STEPPING IN AND OR ONLY SAVING WHITE TOURISTS AND SUCH, BUT WHEN ARE THE AFRICAN MEN TO BLAME? WHEN ARE THESE EVIL MEN OF AFRICA TO BLAME? THE CORRUPT AND INDIFFERENT KILLERS THAT PLAGUE MOTHER AFRICA, ARE TEN TIMES MORE EVIL THAN GEO COULD EVER IMAGINE.

SO GEO DOESN'T HATE BLACK PEOPLE. WHY WOULD HE? HE JUST DOESN'T FUCK WITH TOO MANY BLACK FOLKS. OUTSIDE OF WORK, I DON'T FUCK WITH TOO MANY WHITE FOLKS, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN I HATE WHITE PEOPLE, I'M COOL WITH EVERYONE, EVEN MEXICANS (THAT'S A JOKE...RELAX)! I AGREED WITH KANYE AT FIRST, BECAUSE I THOUGHT BUSH WAS JUST SOME REDNECK CRACKER THAT WAS IN IT (THE PRESIDENCY) FOR OIL AND MONEY. I ADMIT I WAS WRONG; HE'S NOT IN IT (THE PRESIDENCY) FOR MONEY BUT FOR THE POWER. BUT NOT TO DIGRESS, YOU'VE HEARD OF OLE CLARENCE THOMAS FROM BUSH I RIGHT? WE ALL KNOW ABOUT COLIN POWELL AND CONDI RICE TOO RIGHT? BUT HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF DR. ROY L. AUSTIN? HE'S BLACK. HE'S THE AMBASSADOR TO TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO AND HE'S BUSH'S BUDDY FROM YALE (AND A BLACK SKULL, GET SOME OF THAT!!!). GRANT HILL'S OLD MAN AND GEO LIVED IN THE SAME FRAT HOUSE AT YALE. IN FACT, GEO PROBABLY MESSED WITH SOME SISTAS ALONG THE WAY. WITH THAT SAID, BUSH IS PLENTY BLACK. NOT AS BLACK AS MY MAIN MAN BILLY C. (BILL CLINTON) A TRUE HARLEM REPRESENTA AND A "GIG-A-MO" PIMP, BUT AS BLACK AS THE BLACK KID THAT ALWAYS PRONOUNCED HIS WORDS CORRECTLY IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND GOT BEAT UP FOR IT.

SO TO KANYE, JESSE, AND MIN. FARRAKAN YOU GUYS MAKE HELL OF SONGS, SPEECHES AND MARCHES, AND TO YOUR COLLECTIVE CREDIT, YOU'VE SLOWLY OPENED THE EYES OF THE POLITICAL CONSCIOUS, BUT BLACK PEOPLE DON'T LIKE EACH OTHER. MAYBE FOR ONE DAY IN D.C. OR AT THE SOURCE AWARDS, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, PUSHERS WILL SELL TO FIENDS, RAPPERS WILL WARP THE MINDS OF BLACK AND WHITE YOUTH, BET WILL HEAVILY CONTRIBUTE TO THAT, AND WELL TO DO COLLEGE EDUCATED FOLK WILL STICK TO THEIR OWN. READ THE ART OF WAR BY SUN TSU; "THE WAR IS DECIDED WELL BEFORE THE FIGHTING COMMENCES".

THE SKULLS....GOTTA LOVE 'EM

MAN THESE GUYS ROCK...I KNOW YOU GUYS READING THIS, OR THOSE WHO MAY KNOW ME MAY SEE THE WELL KNOWN CYNIC IN ME MAY THINK I'M BEING CYNICAL. BUT SERIOUSLY, THE ONLY THING MORE I LOVE MORE THAN GOOD COLLEGE FOOTBALL IS EVIL MEN! THEY ROCK. THE MAIN REASON THEY ROCK IS THAT REGULAR CITIZENS OF THE REPUBLIC LOVE AND FEAR THESE EVIL MEN AND BELIEVE ANYTHING THEY SAY....KIND OF LIKE DON CORLEONE. THEY MAKE US OFFERS WE CAN'T REFUSE, WHEN IT COMES TO GOVERNMENT AND WE AS VOTERS EMBRACE THEM AND KEEP ASKING FOR MORE. "PLEASE KEEP FEEDING US BULLSHIT MR. BUSH, YOU'RE BULLSHIT IS SO TASTY....AND WE BELIEVE IT"- JOHN Q. PUBLIC or ARLENE THE MISSOURI SOCCER MOM.

I REALLY USED TO THINK AMERICANS WERE STUPID, BUT I'VE CHANGED MY MIND ON THAT. I FAILED HORRIBLY IN MATH CLASSES IN HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE AND ARLENE THE SOCCER MOM COULD HAVE DANCED CIRCLE AROUND ME IN TRIG. SO WHO AM I TO CALL ANYONE WHO JUST JOINS A PARTY AND SIDES WITH SOMEONE WITHOUT KNOWING INDEPTHLY IF THEIR VIEWS COINCIDE WITH WHATEVER CANDIDATE THEIR PARTY THROWS OUT THERE STUPID? THAT'S NOT RIGHT! NO, AMERICANS AREN'T STUPID. NOT IN THE LEAST. AFTER WATCHING JOE SCARBOROUGH ON BILL MAHER FRIDAY, I BELEIVE THAT RIGHT-WING CHRISTIAN FOLK AND LEFT-WING TREE HUGGING FOLK ARE ONE IN THE SAME. THEY POSE NO THREATS AND NEITHER DO THEIR COLLECTIVE VOTES. INSTEAD OF DOING THE SMART THING LIKE RESEARCH ON THEIR CANDIDATES ISSUES AND REALLY STUDYING THE ISSUES LIKE THAT HIGH SCHOOL TRIG EXAM, THEY LEAVE ALL OF THE POLITICAL ISSUES HOMEWORK TO CNN AND TUCKER CARLSON AND JAMES CARVILLE. AND FOR THE NON-COLLEGE EDUCATED, THEY GET BILL O'REILLY AND BILL MAHER.

SO NOW PEOPLE FEEL THAT GEO CAN'T BE TRUSTED OR HE IS MISLEADING THE COUNTRY. NO HE IS NOT! HE'S A CHRISTIAN AND CHRISTIANS ARE HONEST PEOPLE. ON TOP OF THAT, HE'S A SKULL. I KNOW, I KNOW SO IS JOHN KERRY (WHO GIVES A SHIT). BUSH IS WHERE IT'S AT THOUGH. SINISTER MEN ROCK! BORING MEN LIKE KERRY BLOW DOG. EVIL IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN GOOD. DICK CHENEY IS LIKE THE OLD GUY IN THE LAST STAR WARS FLICK, WHEN HE WAS EVER SO CAREFULLY MAKING ANNAKIN INTO DARTH VADAR. GEO WAS ALREADY THERE, BUT EVEN HE HAD TO BE LIKE "HOLY SHIT MAN, YOU'RE REALLY A CRAZY SON-OF-A-BITCH HUH? FUCK IT...TEACH ME WHAT YOU KNOW O' GREAT ONE" THE COOL THING ABOUT CHENEY IS HE MAKES NO BONES ABOUT IT...HE'S EVIL! HE DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT. WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT? HE'LL GET YOUR ASS KILLED AND HE'S NOT EVEN A SKULL (BUT HIS BOY IS THOUGH).

MY CYNICISM GIVES WAY TO MY LOVE OF SINISTER MEN THAT RUN THIS COUNTRY. WHO DIDN'T LIKE SKELETOR ON HE MAN? TONY MONTANA? GARY OLDMAN? SINISTER MEN THAT PREACH MORAL FIBER, GET FAT OFF OF GOVERNMENT PERKS, ALREADY POSSES MILLION DOLLAR BANK ACCOUNTS, MAINTIAN THEIR ALIKE HAIRCUTS (AND TIES), SCREW AROUND ON THEIR SEX STARVED, POSING PAL WIVES, AND 2.5 KIDS ARE THE SHIT! HONESTLY, IF YOU COULD GO TO YALE, DO WHATEVER YOU WANTED, AND HAVE ALL OF YOUR WILDEST DREAMS COME TRUE WOULDN'T YOU? BANG A PORN STAR. MARRY A GIRL FROM RADCLIFF OR SMITH COLLEGE. HAVE KIDS. WORK ON WALL STREET OR CAPITOL HILL. EAT REAL GOOD FOOD. I DON'T SEE TOO MANY GUYS PASSING THIS UP. IF YOU WOULDN'T, YOU'RE EITHER GAY OR FULL OF SHIT. AND EVEN IF YOU'RE GAY, YOU CAN BANG A MALE PORN STAR IN SOME SHITTY HOTEL IN THE VALLEY, OR SECRETLY DATE A GUY WITH A POLITICAL SCIENCE DEGREE FROM BROWN OR DARTMOUTH.

THE SKULLS BREED THOSE SINISTER MEN IN DROVES AND I HOPE THEY NEVER STOP. KEEP SUPPLYING US WITH THE UBER WEALTHY LEADERS OF AMERICA, AND THEIR YURNING FOR POWER AND CONTROL; AND ARLENE AND HER SOCCER MOM ASSOCIATES AROUND THE COUNTRY WILL VOTE FOR YOUR MUNDANE, SELF-SERVING, TAX-CUTS. TO TOP THAT OFF, ARLENE AND THE "SOCCER MOM'S OF AMERICA" AND WILL BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU SAY, LIKE THE ONE ABOUT THE ORANGE, RED, AND GREEN ALERTS OF TERROR THAT THREATEN LITTLE TREVOR'S SOCCER GAME AT 3PM.

ENJOY...
THE THOMAS REPORT

SKULL & BONES
Writer: Kris Millegan

The story begins at Yale, where three threads of American social history -- espionage, drug smuggling and secret societies -- intertwine into one.

Elihu Yale was born near Boston, educated in London, and served with the British East India Company, eventually becoming governor of Fort Saint George, Madras, in 1687. He amassed a great fortune from trade and returned to England in 1699. Yale became known as quite a philanthropist; upon receiving a request from the Collegiate School in Connecticut, he sent a donation and a gift of books. After subsequent bequests, Cotton Mather suggested the school be named Yale College, in 1718.

A statue of Nathan Hale stands on Old Campus at Yale University. There is a copy of that statue in front of the CIA's headquarters in Langley, Virginia. Yet another stands in front of Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts (where George H.W. Bush ('48) went to prep school and joined a secret society at age twelve).

Nathan Hale, along with three other Yale graduates, was a member of the "Culper Ring," one of America's first intelligence operations. Established by George Washington, it was successful throughout the Revolutionary War. Nathan was the only operative to be ferreted out by the British, and after speaking his famous regrets, he was hanged in 1776. Ever since the founding of the Republic, the relationship between Yale and the "Intelligence Community" has been unique.

In 1823, Samuel Russell established Russell and Company for the purpose of acquiring opium in Turkey and smuggling it to China. Russell and Company merged with the Perkins (Boston) syndicate in 1830 and became the primary American opium smuggler. Many of the great American and European fortunes were built on the "China"(opium) trade.

One of Russell and Company's Chief of Operations in Canton was Warren Delano, Jr., grandfather of Franklin Roosevelt. Other Russell partners included John Cleve Green (who financed Princeton), Abiel Low (who financed construction of Columbia), Joseph Coolidge and the Perkins, Sturgis and Forbes families. (Coolidge's son organized the United Fruit company, and his grandson, Archibald C. Coolidge, was a co-founder of the Council on Foreign Relations.)

William Huntington Russell ('33), Samuel's cousin, studied in Germany from 1831-32. Germany was a hotbed of new ideas. The "scientific method" was being applied to all forms of human endeavor. Prussia, which blamed the defeat of its forces by Napoleon in 1806 on soldiers only thinking about themselves in the stress of battle, took the principles set forth by John Locke and Jean Rosseau and created a new educational system. Johan Fitche, in his "Address to the German People," declared that the children would be taken over by the State and told what to think and how to think it.

Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel took over Fitche's chair at the University Of Berlin in 1817, and was a professor there until his death in 1831. Hegel was the culmination of the German idealistic philosophy school of Immanuel Kant.

To Hegel, our world is a world of reason. The state is Absolute Reason and the citizen can only become free by worship and obedience to the state. Hegel called the state the "march of God in the world" and the "final end". This final end, Hegel said, "has supreme right against the individual, whose supreme duty is to be a member of the state." Both fascism and communism have their philosophical roots in Hegellianism. Hegellian philosophy was very much in vogue during William Russell's time in Germany.

When Russell returned to Yale in 1832, he formed a senior society with Alphonso Taft ('33). According to information acquired from a break-in to the "tomb" (the Skull and Bones meeting hall) in 1876, "Bones is a chapter of a corps in a German University.... General Russell, its founder, was in Germany before his Senior Year and formed a warm friendship with a leading member of a German society. He brought back with him to college, authority to found a chapter here." So class valedictorian William H. Russell, along with fourteen others, became the founding members of "The Order of Scull and Bones," later changed to "The Order of Skull and Bones".

The secretive Order of Skull and Bones exists only at Yale. Fifteen juniors are "tapped" each year by the seniors to be initiated into next year's group. Some say each initiate is given $15,000 and a grandfather clock. Far from being a campus fun-house, the group is geared more toward the success of its members in the post-collegiate world.

The family names on the Skull and Bones roster roll off the tongue like an elite party list -- Lord, Whitney, Taft, Jay, Bundy, Harriman, Weyerhaeuser, Pinchot, Rockefeller, Goodyear, Sloane, Stimson, Phelps, Perkins, Pillsbury, Kellogg, Vanderbilt, Bush, Lovett and so on.

William Russell went on to become a general and a state legislator in Connecticut. Alphonso Taft was appointed U.S. Attorney General, Secretary of War (a post many "Bonesmen" have held), Ambassador to Austria, and Ambassador to Russia (another post held by many "Bonesmen"). His son, William Howard Taft ('87), is the only man to be both President of the United States and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

The Order flourished from the very beginning in spite of occasional squalls of controversy. There was dissension from some professors, who didn't like its secrecy and exclusiveness. And there was backlash from students, showing concern about the influence "Bones" was having over Yale finances and the favoritism shown to "Bonesmen."

In October of 1873, Volume 1, Number 1, of The Iconoclast was published in New Haven. It was only published once and was one of very few openly published articles on the Order of Skull and Bones.

From The Iconoclast:

"We speak through a new publication. because the college press is closed to those who dare to openly mention 'Bones'....

"Out of every class Skull and Bones takes its men. They have gone out into the world and have become, in many instances, leaders in society. They have obtained control of Yale. Its business is performed by them. Money paid to the college must pass into their hands, and be subject to their will. No doubt they are worthy men in themselves, but the many, whom they looked down upon while in college, cannot so far forget as to give money freely into their hands. Men in Wall Street complain that the college comes straight to them for help, instead of asking each graduate for his share. The reason is found in a remark made by one of Yale's and America's first men: 'Few will give but Bones men and they care far more for their society than they do for the college....'

"Year by year the deadly evil is growing. The society was never as obnoxious to the college as it is today, and it is just this ill-feeling that shuts the pockets of non-members. Never before has it shown such arrogance and self-fancied superiority. It grasps the College Press and endeavors to rule it all. It does not deign to show its credentials, but clutches at power with the silence of conscious guilt.

"To tell the good which Yale College has done would be well nigh impossible. To tell the good she might do would be yet more difficult. The question, then, is reduced to this -- on the one hand lies a source of incalculable good -- on the other a society guilty of serious and far-reaching crimes. It is Yale College against Skull and Bones!! We ask all men, as a question of right, which should be allowed to live?"

At first, the society held its meetings in hired halls. Then in 1856, the "tomb", a vine-covered, windowless, brown-stone hall was constructed, where to this day the "Bonesmen" hold their "strange, occultish" initiation rites and meet each Thursday and Sunday.

On September 29, 1876, a group calling itself "The Order of File and Claw" broke into the Skull and Bones' holy of holies. In the "tomb" they found lodge-room 324 "fitted up in black velvet, even the walls being covered with the material." Upstairs was lodge-room 322, "the 'sanctum sanctorium' of the temple... furnished in red velvet" with a pentagram on the wall. In the hall are "pictures of the founders of Bones at Yale, and of members of the Society in Germany, when the chapter was established here in 1832." The raiding party found another interesting scene in the parlor next to room 322.

From "The Fall Of Skull And Bones":

"On the west wall, hung among other pictures, an old engraving representing an open burial vault, in which, on a stone slab, rest four human skulls, grouped about a fools cap and bells, an open book, several mathematical instruments, a beggar's scrip, and a royal crown. On the arched wall above the vault are the explanatory words, in Roman letters, 'We War Der Thor, Wer Weiser, Wer Bettler Oder, Kaiser?' and below the vault is engraved, in German characters, the sentence; 'Ob Arm, Ob Beich, im Tode gleich.'

The picture is accompanied by a card on which is written, 'From the German Chapter. Presented by D. C. Gilman of D. 50'."

Daniel Coit Gilman ('52), along with two other "Bonesmen," formed a troika which still influences American life today. Soon after their initiation in Skull and Bones, Daniel Gilman, Timothy Dwight ('49) and Andrew Dickinson White ('53) went to study philosophy in Europe at the University of Berlin. Gilman returned from Europe and incorporated Skull and Bones as Russell Trust, in 1856, with himself as Treasurer and William H. Russell as President. He spent the next fourteen years in New Haven consolidating the order's power.

Gilman was appointed Librarian at Yale in 1858. Through shrewd political maneuvering, he acquired funding for Yale's science departments (Sheffield Scientific School) and was able to get the Morrill Land Bill introduced in Congress, passed and finally signed by President Lincoln, after being vetoed by President Buchanan.

This bill, "donating public-lands for State College for agriculture and sciences", is now known as the Land Grant College Act. Yale was the first school in America to get the federal land scrip and quickly grabbed all of Connecticut's share at the time. Pleased by the acquisitions, Yale made Gilman a Professor of Physical Geography.

Daniel was the first President of the University of California. He also helped found, and was the first president of, John Hopkins.

Gilman was first president of the Carnegie Institution and involved in the founding of the Peabody, Slater and Russell Sage Foundations.

His buddy, Andrew D. White, was the first president of Cornell University (which received all of New York's share of the Land Grant College Act), U.S. Minister to Russia, U.S. Ambassador to Berlin and first president of the American Historical Association. White was also Chairman of the American delegation to the first Hague Conference in 1899, which established an international judiciary.

Timothy Dwight, a professor at Yale Divinity School, was installed as president of Yale in 1886. All presidents since, have been either "Bonesmen" or directly tied to the Order and its interests.

The Daniel/Gilman/White trio was also responsible for the founding of the American Economic Association, the American Chemical Society and the American Psychological Association. Through their influences on John Dewey and Horace Mann, this trio continues to have an enormous impact on education today.

W. C. Whitney ('63), who married Flora Payne (of the Standard Oil Payne dynasty), was Secretary of the Navy. His attorney was a man named Elihu Root. Root hired Henry Stimson ('88), out of law school. Stimson took over from Root as Secretary of War in 1911, appointed by fellow Bonesman William Howard Taft. Stimson later became Coolidge's Governor-General of the Philippine Islands, Hoover's Secretary of State, and Secretary of War during the Roosevelt and Truman administrations.

Hollister Bundy ('09) was Stimson's special assistant and point man in the Pentagon for the Manhattan Project. His two sons, also members of Skull and Bones, were William Bundy ('39) and McGeorge Bundy ('40) -- both very active in governmental and foundation affairs.

The two brothers, from their positions in the CIA, the Department of Defense and the State Department, and as Special Assistants to Presidents Kennedy and Johnson, exercised significant impact on the flow of information and intelligence during the Vietnam "War."

William Bundy went on to be editor of Foreign Affairs, the influential quarterly of the Council on Foreign Affairs (CFR). McGeorge became president of the Ford Foundation.

Another interesting group of "Bonesmen" is the Harriman/Bush crowd. Averil Harriman ('13), "Elder Statesman" of the Democratic Party, and his brother Roland Harriman ('17) were very active members. In fact, four of Roland's fellow "Bonesmen" from the class of 1917 were directors of Brown Brothers, Harriman, including Prescott Bush ('17), George Bush's dad.

Since the turn of the century, two investment bank firms -- Guaranty Trust and Brown Brothers, Harriman -- were both dominated by members of Skull and Bones. These two firms were heavily involved in the financing of Communism and Hitler's regime.

Bonesman share an affinity for the Hegellian ideas of the historical dialectic, which dictates the use of controlled conflict -- thesis versus anti-thesis -- to create a pre-determined synthesis. A synthesis of their making and design, where the state is absolute and individuals are granted their freedoms based on their obedience to the state -- a New World Order.

Funding and political maneuvering on the part of "Bonesmen" and their allies helped the Bolsheviks prevail in Russia. In defiance of federal laws, the cabal financed industries, established banks and developed oil and mineral deposits in the fledgling U.S.S.R.

Later, Averil Harriman, as minister to Great Britain in charge of Lend-Lease for Britain and Russia, was responsible for shipping entire factories into Russia. According to some researchers, Harriman also oversaw the transfer of nuclear secrets, plutonium and U. S. dollar printing plates to the U.S.S.R.

In 1932, the Union Banking Corporation of New York City had enlisted four directors from the ('17) cell and two Nazi bankers associated with Fritz Thyssen, who had been financing Hitler since 1924.

From "George Bush; The Unauthorized Biography":

"President Franklin Roosevelt's Alien Property Custodian, Leo T. Crowley, signed Vesting Order Number 248 [11/17/42] seizing the property of Prescott Bush under the Trading with Enemy Act. The order, published in obscure government record books and kept out of the news, Note #4 explained nothing about the Nazis involved; only that the Union Banking Corporation was run for the 'Thyssen family' of 'Germany and/or Hungary' -- 'nationals ... of a designated enemy country.'

"By deciding that Prescott Bush and the other directors of the Union Banking Corporation were legally 'front men for the Nazis', the government avoided the more important historical issue: In what way 'were Hitler's Nazis themselves hired, armed, and instructed by' the New York and London clique of which Prescott Bush was an executive manager? ...

"4. New York Times, December 16, 1944, ran a five-paragraph page 25 article on actions of the New York State Banking Department. Only the last sentence refers to the Nazi bank, as follows: 'The Union Banking Corporation, 39 Broadway, New York, has received authority to change its principal place of business to 120 Broadway.'

"The Times omitted the fact that the Union Banking Corporation had been seized by the government for trading with the enemy, and the fact that 120 Broadway was the address of the government's Alien Property Custodian."

After the war, Prescott went on to become a U. S. Senator from Connecticut and favorite golfing partner of President Eisenhower. Prescott claims responsibility for getting Nixon into politics and takes personal credit for bringing Dick on board as Ike's running mate in 1952.

There were so many "Yalies" in the OSS that Yale's drinking tune, the "Whiffenpoof Song", became an "unofficial" song of the OSS. Many in the OSS were "Bonesmen" or belonged to the other Yale senior societies.

Robert Lovett ('18), Harriman's childhood friend, had been tapped into Skull & Bones by Prescott Bush's cell of '17 and was a director at Brown Brothers, Harriman.

Again, from "George Bush: The Unauthorized Biography":

"On October 22, 1945, Secretary of War Robert Patterson created the Lovett Committee, chaired by Robert A. Lovett, to advise the government on the post-World War II organization of U.S. intelligence activities.... The new agency would 'consult' with the armed forces, but it must be the sole collecting agency in the field of foreign espionage and counterespionage. The new agency should have an independent budget, and its appropriations should be granted by Congress without public hearings. Lovett appeared before the Secretaries of State, War, and Navy on November 14, 1945.... Lovett pressed for a virtual resumption of the wartime Office of Strategic Services (OSS).... The CIA was established in 1947 according to the prescription of Robert Lovett, of Jupiter Island."

Gaddis Smith, a history professor at Yale, said, "Yale has influenced the Central Intelligence Agency more than any other university, giving the CIA the atmosphere of a class reunion." And "Bonesman" have been foremost among the "spooks" building the CIA's "haunted house."

F. Trubee Davison ('18) was Director of Personnel at the CIA in the early years. Some of the other "Bonesmen" connected with the intelligence community are:

Sloane Coffin, Jr. ('49)
V. Van Dine ('49)
James Buckley ('44)

Senator David Boren ('63)
Senator John Kerry ('66)
...and, of course, George Herbert Walker Bush. Bush tapped Coffin, who tapped Buckley.

Guaranty Trust was founded in 1864 in New York. Over the next 100 years the banking firm
expanded rapidly by absorbing other banks and trust companies; in 1910 it merged Morton Trust
Company, in 1912 the Standard Trust Company and in 1929, the National Bank of Commerce. The
J.P. Morgan Firm has effectively controlled Guaranty Trust since 1912 when Mrs. Edward Harriman
(Mother of Roland and Averell Harriman) sold her block of 8,000 shares of the total outstanding
20,000 shares to J.P. Morgan. By 1954 Guranty Trust had become the most important banking
subsidiary of the J.P. Morgan Firm and since 1954 the merged firms have been known as Morgan
Guaranty Company.
